All Haverford College faculty and staff can access NotebookLM using their official Haverford Google account at notebooklm.google.com.
Q.) Is my information secure using NotebookLM at Haverford?
Yes, but strict data restriction rules still apply. When logged into NotebookLM using your Haverford account, your uploaded sources and prompts fall under Haverford’s Google enterprise agreement—submissions are not reviewed by humans and are not used to train AI models.
However, you must adhere to Haverford’s Data Classification guidelines. You may not input confidential data–as defined in the guidelines–without explicit written approval from the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Division Head. Social Security Numbers (SSNs) and Protected Health Information (PHI) must NEVER be entered into any AI tool under any circumstances.
Always practice data minimization by only uploading the specific files needed for your task.

Note that AI summaries supplement but cannot replace reading source materials. NotebookLM can still misinterpret context or omit key facts. You remain responsible for verifying the accuracy of any factual claims or citations generated before relying on them for College work.
