Using Zoom in Academic Classes

During the Pandemic, everyone used Zoom for their courses. Zoom use in academic courses no longer common but, it is still has a place in some courses. You can bring remote guests to your classes via Zoom. With Zoom, you can record short lessons to share with your students. In some cases, Zoom is a great options for recording course lectures.

If you are using Zoom for class meetings, but you do not wish to share recordings, just use your haverford.zoom.us account as you would for any meeting. This article explains how to use Zoom for course recordings and then share the recordings via Panopto. Once in Panopto, the video will remain available to students for the duration of the course — and beyond. Also, you can take advantage of Panopto’s many features for editing the video and playing it back.

Here is an overview of the process.

  1. Add a Zoom Link to your Moodle course
  2. Add a Panopto link to your course
  3. Create one or more meetings using the Zoom link tool
  4. Start your Zoom meetings via the tool or as you would any meeting
  5. Record the meeting to the cloud (external link / opens in new window)
  6. Access recordings in Panopto beyond the 30 day Zoom retention period
