Meetings and webinars hosted through your licensed Haverford Zoom account can show automatic captions — live text of the current conversation — as well as transcripts, which let you scroll back through a saved text history.
Default behavior: Captions available
If you host a meeting from your Haverford Zoom account, any participants (including you) can see live captions — unless you take action to disable captioning in your Zoom settings. Participants can opt to have Zoom show those captions translated into dozens of languages. Captioning and translations are not perfect, but they are pretty good.
Although you can disable live captions or live translated captions, we recommend that you keep captions enabled. It is a very helpful accessibility tool for many people.
If captions are available, you should find the Show Captions option on your Zoom Taskbar. For details, see Zoom's support article, Viewing captions in a meeting or webinar.
Live transcript availability options (default is no transcripts)
Transcripts save the live captions to create a text history of the meeting. By default, transcripts are not available. This way, your meeting operates more like an in-person meeting in which you need to be present and listen to keep up with the conversation. With Haverford's default setting, we assure that you as a meeting host can make a proactive decision about privacy.
If you wish to allow live transcripts in your meetings, you need to first enable that option in your settings and determine the level of access you wish your participants to have:
- transcripts for hosts only
- transcripts for hosts and participants
- host can save transcripts
- any participant can save transcripts.
NOTE: Changing your personal settings only affects meetings you host. During any meeting, the host can still turn transcripts on or off at any time. If you record a meeting to the cloud, the recording automatically includes a transcript, whether or not you enable transcripts during that meeting.
Change Zoom settings to enable transcripts
To enable the transcript option, you need to find your meeting settings on haverford.zoom.us.
- Go to Settings -> Meeting -> In Meeting (Advanced).

- Scroll down to the transcripts section, and toggle Meeting Transcript on.

- Once you toggle Meeting Transcript on, you will see additional Retention and permissions options for who can see and save live transcripts. Set them as desired. You will need to allow participants to view a transcript before you can enable the option to save it.
