What Anti-Virus can I install?

Installing Bitdefender Anti Virus for Haverford College owned computers.

Haverford College used Bitdefender GravityZone Business Security as it's Anti virus Endpoint Solution.

Bitdefender is licensed to be installed on College Owned computers only.

Please follow the instructions below for your appropriate operating system to uninstall Kaspersky Antivirus and install Bitdefender.

**Please save and close all open programs before starting this process.**

Windows

The installation of Bitdefender will automatically remove any previous antivirus program.

 
  1. Open the Bitdefender installer folder here.  Bitdefender for Windows
  2. Right click the installer.xml file and click download then save file.
  3. Right click on the Bitdefender Windows file and click download.
  4. Click download anyway if prompted, then save file.
  5. Open up your downloads folder by
    1. Windows 10: Typing downloads in the search bar and click the downloads folder
    2. Windows 7: Click the Start button and typing downloads in the search bar
  6. Double click Bitdefender Windows.exe and click run.
  7. When the installer opens click Continue and wait a few minutes for Bitdefender to remove your current antivirus software. It should then begin the new installation itself.
  8. During the installation, Bitdefender may need to restart your computer.
  9. Once your computer restarts, Bitdefender will continue installing on its own. When the installation is complete, click Finish.
  10. If Bitdefender did not restart your computer during the installation, restart your machine one last time to finalize installation.

Mac OS

If you currently have Kaspersky Antivirus installed you will see a “K” icon like the one shown below on your task bar.  If you do, please follow the instructions below.

If you do NOT have Kaspersky installed please skip down to the second section labeled Bitdefender Clean installation.

  1. Download the Kaspersky package which contains the uninstaller here.  Select “Download anyway” when prompted that Google cannot scan for virus’s.                   Kaspersky package
    1. Do not run the package yet!
  2. Download the Bitdefender installer here.  Select “Download anyway” when prompted that Google cannot scan for virus’s.  Bitdefender for Mac
    1. Do not run the package yet!
  3. Go to your downloads folder by opening Finder and clicking Downloads.
  4. Double click the “Kaspersky Mac” file.
  5. Double-click on the “Uninstall Kaspersky Endpoint Security” option.
  6. Select “Open” from the Security prompt, if applicable.
  7. Select the “Uninstall” button from the bottom right.
  8. Enter your computer password and click OK.
  9. When it’s finished select “Done”.
  10. Restart your computer to finalize the uninstall.
  11. Log back into your computer and open up your downloads folder again.
  12. Double Click the Bitdefender for MAC installer and then the antivirus for mac package.
  13. Click “continue” on the installer window
  14. Select “Install” on the next step.
  15. Enter your computer password and select “Install Software”
  16. If a prompt comes up saying “System Extension Blocked” click the open security preferences button and click allow.
  17. Select “close” when the installation has finished.

Bitdfender Clean Installation

  1. Download the Bitdefender installer here. Select “Download anyway” when prompted that Google cannot scan for virus’s.  Bitdefender for Mac
  2. Go to your downloads folder by opening Finder and clicking Downloads.
  3. Double Click the Bitdefender for MAC installer and then the antivirus for mac package.
  4. Click “continue” on the installer window
  5. Select “Install” on the next step.
  6. Enter your computer password and select “Install Software”
  7. If a prompt comes up saying “System Extension Blocked” click the open security preferences button and click allow.
  8. Select “close” when the installation has finished.

If you have upgraded your Mac operating system to Mojave (10.14) you will also need to follow the extra steps here to complete the permissions changes.
